Rick Lee James, an acclaimed singer/songwriter and podcaster, has released a heartfelt new single titled “Keep Watch, Dear Lord.”
This poignant piano ballad, written and produced by James with instrumental contributions from Dove Award-winner Craig Adams, pays homage to the unwavering dedication of doctors, nurses, and medical professionals who provide care and compassion to the sick and suffering.
The inspiration behind “Keep Watch, Dear Lord” stems from James’ personal experiences as a chaplaincy resident at Kettering Health in Ohio. After witnessing the tireless efforts of healthcare workers, he was moved to create a song that not only offers encouragement but serves as a prayer for God’s comfort and peace to be bestowed upon those who have taken on the sacred duty of caring for others in times of need.
The song’s lyrics draw from the Compline Prayer, particularly the line “Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night.” James hopes that “Keep Watch, Dear Lord” will serve as a reminder of the immeasurable value of healthcare professionals—from nurses and doctors to custodians and cooks—who carry out their tasks with kindness and compassion.
By capturing the profound importance of the work carried out by caregivers, “Keep Watch, Dear Lord” honors their selflessness and dedication. The song stands as a tribute to those who tirelessly provide care and comfort, embodying the belief that their efforts are not just their own but a reflection of a higher calling
