Canadian psalmist and singer-songwriter Cindy Clark has released her powerful new single, “I Lift My Eyes (Psalm 121),” a joyful and faith-filled reimagining of one of Scripture’s most comforting passages. Rooted in personal loss yet overflowing with hope, the song transforms grief into praise through an unexpected, life-affirming sound.
The inspiration behind I Lift My Eyes (Psalm 121) began in 2024, when Cindy met a young woman named Stephanie in what she describes as a divine appointment. Though their time together was brief, Stephanie shared her deeply moving journey with OCD and addiction. Cindy met with her weekly, praying daily and repeatedly singing the Vineyard worship classic “I Lift My Eyes Up” by Brian Doerksen during that season.
After months of singing the song, Cindy felt a quiet but clear prompting: “Go and sing Psalm 121.” As she opened the passage and sang the written Word in the same key, a new song emerged — one she never expected. What formed was not a somber lament, but a vibrant, joy-filled anthem that many listeners have described as simply making them happy.
Anchored in Psalm 121:7 — “The Lord will keep you from all harm; He will watch over your life… both now and forever” — the song stands as a reminder that even in life’s deepest hardships, God remains present and faithful. Sonically, I Lift My Eyes (Psalm 121) blends disco-funk grooves, soulful melodies, touches of rock, an infectious saxophone line, and a dynamic choir echoing the declaration: “You are where my help comes from.” The result is a powerful, celebratory expression of trust and joy on the journey toward God.
