In a time marked by global crisis, division, and uncertainty, the St. Lukas Gospel Choir from Munich is raising its voice with purpose. Their new album, Get Ready, is more than a musical release — it is a statement. Rooted in gospel tradition yet urgently contemporary, the album calls listeners to awaken, reflect, and act.
Performed by 60 singers, Get Ready is the result of a collective journey shaped by perseverance and conviction. Blending gospel, spirituals, and original compositions, the project balances sacred heritage with burning relevance, proving that faith-driven music can still speak powerfully to today’s world.
One of the album’s most moving moments is “Elohai,” a traditional Jewish prayer dating back to the 4th century. Dedicated to children who have lost their lives in wars, the piece unites Jewish sacred music with gospel, offering a poignant reminder that music can build bridges where words fall short.
The historic spiritual “Down by the Riverside,” sung for over 200 years from the American Revolutionary War to civil rights marches, is reimagined with a striking German rap section. Its message remains timeless and uncompromising: lay down your weapons, choose hope.
On “Peace,” the choir confronts the unspeakable — a raw, desperate prayer in the face of a world unraveling. This is not soft background music, but an unfiltered lament that feels painfully current. Meanwhile, “Carry You” retells the Christmas story from the perspective of the donkey that carried Mary to Bethlehem, offering a quiet but profound promise of presence over material offerings.
Get Ready also reignites powerful classics. Curtis Mayfield’s “People Get Ready” is woven together with Bob Marley’s “One Love,” connecting two prophetic voices around a shared truth of unity and change. Mumford & Sons and Pharrell Williams’ “Good People” becomes an urgent wake-up call, while Gregory Porter’s “Revival” transforms from an intimate confession into a collective declaration of resilience and mutual uplift.
This is not an album for passive listening. Get Ready demands attention, compassion, and response. Singing against violence and loneliness, the St. Lukas Gospel Choir stands for community and a faith that extends far beyond Sunday mornings. At a moment when many fall silent, these 60 voices rise — powerfully, uncomfortably, and hopefully.
For over 30 years, the St. Lukas Gospel Choir has inspired audiences with its dynamic crossover of gospel, jazz, and pop, masterfully arranged by Bastian Pusch. A multiple winner in the gospel category at the Bavarian Choir Competition, the choir performs around 25 concerts each year, often to sold-out venues.
From performing for 250,000 viewers on the ARD television church service, to garnering over 16,000 views for their YouTube Christmas concert, and touring internationally in Rwanda and Finland, the choir continues to transcend borders and expectations.
With Get Ready, powerful voices meet delicate tones, captivating choreography meets deeply human moments — and audiences are left inspired, challenged, and moved
