Artist and storyteller Benjamin William Hastings shares a deeply personal and relatable new song titled “The Man I Could Be,” now available on all music platforms. Known for his thoughtful lyricism and emotional honesty, the GRAMMY-nominated songwriter explores the quiet tension between contentment and the desire to grow, setting a reflective tone as a new year begins.
Written on his birthday, November 15, one year ago, “The Man I Could Be” captures a moment of self-examination shaped by the fast pace and mounting responsibilities of everyday life. Produced by Ben Tan and Michael Guy Chislett, the acoustic-driven track offers a candid look into the mindset of the modern millennial man—one who hopes to improve not only in faith and character, but also as a father, friend, and in the small, practical moments of life. The chorus gently echoes this longing: “Maybe this will be the year I find the man I could be.”
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the song, Hastings shares with his trademark humor: “Why is it always around your birthday that you seem to have these full-on existential moments? This time last year, my moment was surrounding my cup of coffee. I wrote this song not only for me, but for every man out there tryna be better. Who knew coffee from a pod would inspire my new song?”
Benjamin William Hastings is currently performing to sold-out crowds across the country on his headlining At The Heart Of It Tour, joined by special guest Jamie MacDonald. The tour offers an intimate night of worship centered on returning to the heart of God.
Adding to an already remarkable season, Hastings recently received his first GRAMMY nomination for his songwriting contributions on the platinum-selling, No. 1 hit “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” performed by Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll, recognized in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song category.
