Songwriter and storyteller Caroline Cobb has announced the release of her first book, Advent for Exiles (B&H Publishing). This beautifully crafted Advent devotional features 25 reflections aimed at igniting a sense of Christmas hope in every yearning heart. Readers can now purchase this Scripture-rich companion for the Advent season.
With the holidays fast approaching, this 25-day devotional intricately weaves together Scripture passages, song lyrics, poetic prose, biblical imagery, and engaging exercises, guiding readers to joyfully commemorate Christ’s first coming while nurturing a deep longing for His return.
“Advent for Exiles is crafted to prepare your heart. Its main purpose is to stir your anticipation for the arrival of Christ,” Cobb explains.
In 2020, Cobb released her album A Seed, A Sunrise, which explored the profound emotions of Advent, the joy of Christmas, and the hopeful expectation of Christ’s return. This album served as the inspiration for her Advent devotional, prompting her to explore the rich poetic imagery found in Isaiah and the theme of exile within the Scriptures. What began as a side project after her Christmas album quickly evolved into a deeper exploration, revealing layers of meaning she had yet to uncover. To complement Advent for Exiles, listeners can enjoy a curated devotional playlist on Spotify.
Cobb reflects, “I wanted to draw more connections between our current experience and the biblical theme of exile and help readers imaginatively engage in the ache of Advent as a way of expanding their joy at Christ’s coming. Advent for Exiles is the fruit of more than two years of writing and wrestling this deep dive into words.”
