Singer-songwriter Doug Howell is excited to unveil his latest song, “Up on the Roof.” After taking a break from releasing his own music, Howell delivers a classic that holds a special place in his musical DNA. Hailing from Michigan, Doug Howell’s musical journey has taken him from being a farm kid to a singer-songwriter on the Big Island of Hawai’i. He released six albums prior to 2010 and currently writes and releases songs from his studio in Puna.
Having graduated from the University of Michigan in music composition, Howell’s career has been marked by significant achievements. He performed with contemporary Christian music groups New Jerusalem and Good News Circle before embarking on a solo career, captivating audiences in concert halls, colleges, coffee houses, and churches across the USA. Additionally, he has written, arranged, and performed for various media, including video, TV, radio, and sporting events. Notably, he wrote and conducted the strings on the long-standing NCAA Basketball Final 4 theme, “One Shining Moment.” Furthermore, Howell has composed music for over a dozen children’s “animated storybook” CD-ROMs, including beloved titles like Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, Lamb Chop Loves Music, and Tonka Raceway. His songs have been recorded by renowned artists such as B. J. Thomas and Chris Christian.
