A Berlin-based pastor, Christoph Scharf, has surprised many by venturing into music at the age of nearly 55.
The Protestant pastor of LKG Missionsgemeinde in Berlin-Spandau recently released his second single, “New Beginning,” following the release of his debut song, “30 Years,” in November 2025.
Scharf’s first song was inspired by his 30th wedding anniversary with his wife, Inka. The couple’s silver wedding anniversary celebration five years earlier had been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The song was initially written as a personal tribute to his wife and to Jesus Christ, whom the couple considers the foundation of their love and marriage.
However, after receiving encouraging feedback from those who heard the song, Scharf decided to make it available to the public.
“I received so many positive and encouraging reactions that I decided to continue,” he said.
His songs are produced by Lars Peter, a graduate of the Pop Academy Mannheim and a singer-songwriter.
Despite his new passion for music, Scharf has assured members of his church that he has no plans to abandon his pastoral work for a full-time singing career.
“I certainly don’t intend to pursue a professional singing career anymore. It is more of a heartfelt dream that is coming true for me,” he explained.
His latest single, “New Beginning,” was released on March 9, 2026. The song carries a message that is particularly personal to Scharf, while also encouraging others to embrace new opportunities regardless of their age.
“You are never too old to try something new! And with Jesus by your side, many things are possible that you previously couldn’t even imagine,” he said.
For Scharf, the move into music appears to be less about becoming a professional musician and more about finally fulfilling a long-held dream and using his songs to encourage others.
