Melissa Bethea’s new song “Awesome” is making waves in the gospel music scene with its vibrant and soulful sound. The song was co-written by Bethea’s production duo, Eric Davis and Clarence Singleton, who are known for their work with JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise and Marvin Sapp, respectively. Makeba Riddick-Woods, who has co-written pop hits for artists like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna, also contributed to the songwriting.
“Awesome” captures the essence of a Jamaican street festival with its lively and celebratory vibe. The song’s soulfully commercial flavor is expected to attract a diverse audience of new fans, showcasing Bethea’s versatility as an artist.
In 2021, Bethea was invited to join the music department staff at New Light Church in Houston, where she now serves as one of the worship leaders. Alongside her husband and daughter, she made the move from Newark, NJ to Houston, embarking on a new chapter of their lives.
Bethea’s upbringing in Newark was strongly influenced by her family’s love for music. Her mother was a singer with regional choirs, and her father’s passion for music introduced her to genres like blues and Motown. Despite losing her father to diabetes at a young age, his musical influence stayed with her and shaped her own musical journey.
The release of “Awesome” showcases Bethea’s commitment to delivering impactful and uplifting music.
