GRAMMY-winning rock band Switchfoot continue to build anticipation for their forthcoming album Forever Now with the release of their emotionally charged new single “Absolution,” available now on all streaming platforms. Blending an infectious melody with deeply introspective lyricism, the track dives headfirst into themes of guilt, self-reflection, and the search for redemption, offering listeners one of the band’s most vulnerable releases in recent years.
Set to impact Alternative radio on June 2, “Absolution” captures the tension and uncertainty at the heart of Forever Now, which arrives June 26. Frontman Jon Foreman explained that the song emerged from a deeply personal creative process centered around confronting hidden struggles and internal contradictions.
“While writing ‘Absolution,’ I found myself wrestling with the contradictions within me, asking myself, ‘What wouldn’t I have done in my life? Can I make amends? Is there absolution for these things?’” Foreman shared. “A lot of this record is about trying to unearth the things we want to keep buried and the parts of ourselves that inevitably surface in other ways.”
The track further sets the tone for what promises to be one of Switchfoot’s most conceptually ambitious projects to date. Produced by longtime collaborator Mike Elizondo, Forever Now explores the emotional and spiritual questions someone might face during their final day on Earth. The album follows the release of lead single “Wake Up, Mr. Crow,” which introduced fans to the record’s guitar-driven and reflective sonic direction earlier this year.
Alongside the new music, Switchfoot also announced their upcoming Forever Now Tour, a 38-city headlining run across the United States with special guests Anberlin. The tour will bring the band to major cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, and Nashville this fall.
“We poured everything we have into making Forever Now, but we always say that an album isn’t finished until you take it on tour,” said bassist Tim Foreman. “Playing new songs on the road and seeing them connect with fans every single night is a gift.”
With more than 10 million albums sold worldwide and a catalog spanning fourteen studio albums, Switchfoot continue to evolve while maintaining the emotionally resonant songwriting that has defined their career. In 2023, the band celebrated the 20th anniversary of their landmark album The Beautiful Letdown with a special re-recorded edition featuring collaborations from Tyler Joseph, Ryan Tedder, Jon Bellion, and the Jonas Brothers.
Beyond music, the band remains deeply connected to community outreach through the annual Bro-Am Beach Fest in their hometown of San Diego. Organized through the Switchfoot Bro-Am Foundation, the event supports nonprofit organizations serving unhoused, at-risk, and disadvantaged youth through music, art, and surfing initiatives.
