How Sweet The Sound, America’s #1 Gospel Music Competition, returns to the nation’s capital on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 7:30 PM at The Anthem, 901 Wharf St SW, Washington, D.C. The highly anticipated event will bring together some of the most gifted voices, choirs, dancers, and spoken-word artists from across the country for an unforgettable evening of inspiration, culture, and powerful live performances.

This year’s edition continues to highlight extraordinary talent emerging from communities nationwide, with submissions reflecting the depth and richness of artistry rooted in underserved areas. The competition will feature categories including Community Choirs, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Choirs, Soloists, Dance, and Spoken Word, offering a full-spectrum celebration of creativity, heritage, and cultural expression.

A defining focus of this year’s event is its continued commitment to elevating HBCUs, reinforcing their legacy as foundational pillars of Black excellence, artistic development, and cultural influence in America.

The evening will also feature an all-star lineup of judges and special performances from some of gospel music’s most respected voices, including Donald Lawrence, Tamela Mann, David Mann, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, Jekalyn Carr, and JJ Hairston. Their presence brings together a powerhouse assembly of award-winning talent, further solidifying the event as a must-attend moment in gospel music.
