Kings and Priests moves at a deliberate slow tempo, with a soulful feel that sets it apart from the more upbeat gospel releases we have been hearing lately. The instrumentation is simple, the keyboard carries most of the weight, played in strings, with very little bass in the mix. I believe he made it this way, so his audience focuses more on the lyrics of the song than the sound.
The background vocals sounded exceptionally well in this track. They came in melodiously in their different part. The chorus really stood out to me, opened with a proclamation, ‘we will reign’. It is a declaration that speaks about identity, which comes from a strong conviction.
To be fair, there was one moment where the backup vocals came in, and the transition was not as smooth as it should have been. Nevertheless, it does not take away from the overall message and experience of the song.
This song made by Kvng David means something to people, both in the UK Christian community and across the African gospel music audience. The production and mix are good. The message is clear from start to finish. For a debut song, Kings and Priests is a confident and purposeful introduction.
