At just under six minutes, the track is a stunning representation of the simple gospel of Jesus Christ and is perfect for playlisting across genres.
For Regina, “Oh Jesus” holds significant personal meaning. Born from her reflection on the challenges and questions she encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic, the song was inspired by her deep dive into 1 Corinthians 15. In this chapter, Paul speaks of the resurrection of Christians and the transformation of earthly bodies into imperishable, glorified spiritual ones.
Vandereijk explains that her relationship with God has been profoundly shaped by moments when the Holy Spirit revealed insights to her through Scripture. While reading Paul’s teachings in 1 Corinthians 15, she felt the Holy Spirit’s presence and understood for the first time what it truly means that Christ lives within her: “Christ in me, the hope of glory” (Ephesians 1:14). In that moment, she experienced an overwhelming sense of peace and glory, feeling assured of her future resurrection.
“The resurrection is at the heart of Christianity,” says Vandereijk. “When we see the glory in nature—mountains, oceans, sunsets—how much more glorious will the resurrection of Christ be when He returns in His incomparably great power to raise the dead? What a day, what a glory! And all the Saints with Him.”
The song is a call to deepen one’s faith and confidence in the resurrection, echoing Paul’s assertion that if there is no resurrection, our faith is in vain. With “Oh Jesus,” Regina Vandereijk invites listeners to reflect on this powerful truth and embrace the hope that comes with it.
