Rock n’ roll trio Dirty Honey are entering a new chapter with the announcement of their third full-length album, Catch My Butterfly, arriving January 15. The Los Angeles band has introduced the project with two contrasting singles, “Lights Out” and “Butterfly,” offering an early look at the range and energy behind their next record.
Produced by John Feldmann, known for his work with artists including Yungblud, blink-182 and Korn, Catch My Butterfly sees Dirty Honey expanding their sound without leaving behind the grit and raw energy that have shaped their identity.
Frontman Marc LaBelle, guitarist John Notto and bassist Justin Smolian have spent the years since their previous album continuing to grow as musicians and songwriters. For LaBelle, making a third album represents its own achievement, particularly after the lessons and experiences that came with their earlier records.
The band’s latest singles show two very different sides of that progression. “Lights Out” comes charging out of the gates with open guitar chords, delay-heavy staccato playing, driving bass and a steady rhythm before moving into heavier riffing. The song carries an ominous edge, building toward an explosive guitar solo from Notto.
Notto describes “Lights Out” as the first major statement from the album and points to the unusually early moment when he felt he had already nailed the solo during the demo stage. At the same time, he stresses that the track represents only one part of what listeners will hear across Catch My Butterfly.
The second single, “Butterfly,” takes a much more reflective route. Acoustic guitar and gentle strings create a softer backdrop as LaBelle explores a deeply personal subject involving addiction and its impact on families.
The song was shaped in part by addiction issues within LaBelle’s family. Rather than writing directly from the perspective of the person struggling with addiction, he approached the story through the eyes of someone watching a loved one go through it, capturing the fear, uncertainty and emotional conflict that can come with not knowing whether someone close to you is safe.
That contrast between the two singles gives Catch My Butterfly an intriguing introduction. Where “Lights Out” leans into Dirty Honey’s harder rock instincts, “Butterfly” allows the band to explore a more soulful and vulnerable side.
Smolian believes the album reflects the band’s broader musical capabilities, describing it as a project that demonstrates the full width of what they can do as musicians and songwriters.
Dirty Honey’s journey to their third album began with their breakthrough in 2019. Their breakout single “When I’m Gone” made rock history by becoming the first song by an unsigned artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart. The band followed that breakthrough with their self-titled debut album in 2021 before releasing Can’t Find The Brakes in 2023, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart.
The trio have also built their reputation on the road, touring with major rock acts including Guns N’ Roses and The Black Crowes, while selling out successive headline tours of their own. Their music has also attracted attention from publications including Loudwire, Classic Rock Magazine, Spill Magazine and Rolling Stone.
Now, with Catch My Butterfly, Dirty Honey are looking to push that momentum further. The 14-track album includes “Lights Out” and “Butterfly” alongside songs such as “If It’s Over,” “Numb,” “Wanderlust,” “Good For You,” “American Lies,” “Poison,” “Sweeter,” “No Way Out,” “New Blood,” “Lullaby” and “I Should’ve Known.”
With Feldmann behind the production and two singles already showing different sides of the band’s personality, Catch My Butterfly sets up another significant chapter for Dirty Honey. The album arrives January 15, continuing a run that has taken the trio from an unsigned breakthrough to international tours, chart success and a growing reputation for keeping rock music unpredictable.
