GRAMMY® winner Lloyd Nicks is opening another chapter of his musical journey with “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Heaven,” the latest single from his forthcoming debut album, Paper-Maché.
Released through Curb Records, the new song gives listeners another glimpse into the 12-track project, which is scheduled to arrive on March 19, 2027. With its retro-inspired sound, soulful vocals and choir-backed arrangement, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Heaven” centres on faith, perseverance and keeping an eternal perspective through life’s difficult moments.
Nicks approaches the song as a declaration of determination. The track acknowledges that challenges are inevitable, but instead of allowing those moments to dictate his direction, he focuses on the hope and promise of eternity. Its message is about continuing to move forward and finishing the race despite the obstacles along the way.
The St. Louis native co-wrote “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Heaven” with Micah Kuiper, Matthews Ntlele and Mike Curb. Kuiper and Kyle Williams produced the recording, which is set to appear on Paper-Maché.
The upcoming album promises to explore an even more personal side of Nicks. Across its 12 tracks, Paper-Maché reflects on experiences involving abuse, abandonment and grief, while also documenting the transformation he has experienced through his relationship with Jesus.
At the centre of the project is Nicks’ perspective as a husband and father. His music draws from his desire to break away from generations of pain while creating something different for his own children. That personal journey gives the album an emotional foundation that extends beyond its faith-based themes.
Musically, Paper-Maché brings together R&B, soul, pop, Gospel and worship, showcasing Nicks’ versatility as both a vocalist and storyteller. The project will also feature his personal interpretation of “That’s My King,” the GRAMMY®-winning song made famous by CeCe Winans.
The album’s tracklist also includes “A Little More,” Nicks’ current radio single, as well as “Heal For You,” an emotional song centred on fatherhood. “Heal For You” has already generated more than 60 million social media impressions and earned a nomination for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year ahead of the 57th GMA Dove Awards.
The Dove Awards will take place in Nashville on October 6, 2026, with the ceremony scheduled to air on TBN on October 9.
Nicks’ career has already produced several major milestones. He is a GRAMMY® winner, a three-time GMA Dove Award nominee and a co-writer on a Billboard Music Award-winning song. His work on CeCe Winans’ “That’s My King” was particularly significant, with the song spending 49 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart.
Nicks signed with Curb Records in 2025, marking a new phase in a musical journey that has been more than a decade in the making. Although his recent achievements may appear sudden, his story is rooted in years of songwriting, performing and developing his distinctive voice.
Born in East St. Louis and raised in Cahokia, Illinois, Nicks grew up facing difficult circumstances and began finding his musical voice around the age of 14. Influenced by gospel figures including Fred Hammond, Marvin Sapp and the Winans, he developed a style that combines gospel, urban and contemporary sounds.
His personal experiences have continued to shape his artistry. After losing his mother at 26 and later starting a family of his own, Nicks has used songwriting to explore both the difficult and hopeful sides of life.
