Gospel vocalist Kelontae Gavin is celebrating a major social media milestone as his South Carolina Lowcountry-inspired song “At the Meeting” surpasses 1 billion TikTok views.
Released through Kelontae Gavin Enterprise, Inc. and Tyscot Records, the traditional gospel track has found an unexpected second life on social media, inspiring thousands of videos and a viral fashion trend centered around church dresses.
The song’s popularity has been driven in part by videos showing women dancing to the track while dressed for church, with the movement of their long dresses becoming part of the trend. Gavin describes the song as a “low country banger” and says the viral moment began when people started using a snippet of his live performance to showcase their church outfits.
For Gavin, the response carries an added meaning because “At the Meeting” represents a return to his musical roots. Known primarily for contemporary gospel, the vocalist says this is the first traditional-sounding single he has released, giving him an opportunity to introduce the Lowcountry gospel sound that represents his South Carolina home to a wider audience.
The song’s growing reach was also highlighted during the 41st annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards, which aired on BET. Gavin joined gospel quartet veterans Melvin Williams of The Williams Brothers and Paul Porter of The Christianaires for a performance of “At the Meeting.”
The response from the audience continued even after the performance ended. The crowd kept singing the song, eventually bringing Gavin, Williams and Porter back for a brief reprise.
With the track continuing to gain momentum, Gavin is now preparing an official music video for “At the Meeting.” The song has already made its way onto the Mediabase Gospel Airplay chart, debuting at No. 27 on this week’s chart.
Rather than creating the video entirely on his own, Gavin is turning to the fans who helped make the song a social media sensation. He is inviting listeners to submit their own videos for consideration in the official music video.
Fans can participate by creating either a TikTok or Instagram video using Gavin’s version of “At the Meeting” and posting it with the hashtag #ATMFANVIDEO. Selected submissions will be incorporated into the official video.
The campaign gives Gavin’s growing online community a direct role in the next stage of the song’s journey, connecting the viral moment on social media with the song’s traditional gospel foundation.
With more than a billion TikTok views, a chart debut and a memorable Stellar Gospel Music Awards performance, “At the Meeting” has become a significant moment for Gavin, bringing his Lowcountry roots to a much wider audience while introducing a traditional side of his artistry to listeners beyond contemporary gospel.
