Christian singer-songwriter and worship leader Tasha Layton is opening up one of the most personal chapters of her life through a new short film inspired by her latest single, “Meet Me In The Valley.”
The 30-minute film documents Layton’s journey into solitude, reflection, and spiritual renewal after spending three days alone in Death Valley National Park in California earlier this year. Directed by Andrew Abajian, the project captures the emotional and spiritual experiences that unfolded during the retreat and brings visual context to the themes explored in the song.
Death Valley, home to the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level, became the setting for what Layton describes as a transformative season of surrender and healing.
“For the last year or so, whenever I prayed, I kept hearing God say, ‘Get low,’” Layton shared. “To me, that meant humbly bringing my offering, entering His presence with humility, and being willing to lay anything down if He asked me to.”
She explained that the connection between that message and the song “Meet Me In The Valley” became increasingly clear, ultimately leading her to make the trip as a time of reflection on both her past and future.
“What God did there was astounding, and He met me there,” she added.
Originally featured on Layton’s latest studio album, Life In Me, the song was written by Layton alongside her husband Keith Everette Smith, Jacob Sooter, and Meredith Andrews. The track focuses on themes of faith, surrender, and God’s presence during life’s lowest moments.
The film’s premiere was recently celebrated with a special event at the Museum of Christian & Gospel Music in Nashville. The gathering brought together friends, media members, and fellow artists including Terrian, Christy Nockels, Jon Reddick, and Madison Watkins.
Since emerging as a solo artist, Layton has become one of contemporary Christian music’s leading voices, earning multiple No. 1 radio singles including “How Far,” “Look What You’ve Done,” and “Worship Through It.” Before launching her solo career, she appeared on American Idol and spent four years as a backing vocalist for pop star Katy Perry.
Released through BEC Recordings, Life In Me continues Layton’s exploration of faith, vulnerability, and personal growth, themes now further expanded through the visual storytelling of “Meet Me In The Valley.”
