Award-winning singer and songwriter Matthew West turns inward on his latest single, “Younger Me,” a deeply personal song that looks back at the experiences that shaped his life, faith and family.
Now available, the solo-written track serves as the final preview of West’s upcoming album, Jesus Is King, which is set for release on September 25. Rather than focusing on where he is today, “Younger Me” takes West back through different chapters of his journey and the lessons he believes were present throughout them.
The song reflects on West discovering his faith as a teenager, dealing with rejection while pursuing music in Nashville, meeting his wife and eventually building a family. Looking back at those experiences, he directs his younger self toward a simple message of trust: God was faithful through every season, and Jesus was enough all along.
That message connects directly with the wider concept behind Jesus Is King. The 12-track album is built around the phrase “Jesus Is _____,” with each song exploring a different characteristic of Jesus and what that means in everyday life. Faithfulness, goodness, strength, redemption, and grace are among the themes explored across the record, ultimately leading back to its central declaration that Jesus is King.
“Younger Me” therefore works as more than just another preview of the album. It gives listeners a personal window into the experiences that helped shape West’s faith and perspective, while showing how those memories connect with the spiritual themes running throughout his new project.
The release also arrives during another significant chapter in West’s career. Earlier this year, he celebrated his 39th No. 1 song with “Good,” adding another major milestone to a career that has combined recording, songwriting and faith-based storytelling for years.
West has also earned recognition from the Nashville Songwriters Association International, being named NSAI Songwriter-Artist of the Year twice. His accolades include an ASCAP Golden Note Award, an ASCAP Songwriter of the Year nomination and multiple ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter-Artist of the Year honors. He has more than 375 songwriting credits to his name.
Beyond music, West has continued exploring themes of faith through writing. His latest book, Don’t Stop Praying: The God Who Hears Is Just a Breath Away, offers a personal, Bible-based look at prayer and is available now.
Meanwhile, West is taking the new music directly to audiences through his 17-stop Jesus Is King Tour, which continues through October 4. With “Younger Me” now out and Jesus Is King approaching, the latest chapter of West’s career brings together his past experiences, present faith and a continuing message about trusting God through every part of the journey.
